Tirlán has joined up with Irish Country Living and our charity partner, Aware, to promote mental health awareness in rural Ireland.

‘Break the Cycle’ is a four week campaign running in Irish Country Living which is part of the Irish Farmers Journal weekly publication.

The awareness and fundraising campaign for Aware’s freephone service 1800 80 48 48 telephone service, which receives on average 80 calls a day, will include a bikeathon which will be held in the Irish Farmers Journal stand BLOCK 2 ROW 14 STAND 260 at the National Ploughing Championships from 17th to the 19th of September.

Everyone is urged to come along to the National Ploughing Championships this year in Ratheniska to cycle a kilometre to raise awareness and money for the cause. There will even be a Top Gear-style leaderboard to see who has the quickest kilometre!

"Let’s break the cycle around the silence; lets break the cycle around the stigma associated with mental health challenges"

Throughout the month of September, content across the Irish Country Living pages will reflect this with essential reading on; suicide rates amongst the farming communities, real-life stories, guidance on where to turn to for support and tools to equip readers with the knowledge and tools needed to build resilience and demystify the stigma around Mental Health in rural Ireland.

Speaking at the launch, Ciara Leahy, editor of Irish Country Living said, “It has been a very tough year for farmers and we are conscious that we could be facing into another challenging winter. With that, we want to provide our readers with useful information on where to look for help and build resilience as well as support people in their life who may be going through a tough time.”

John Murphy , Tirlán Chairperson, explained, “Farming and rural life in Ireland can be isolating, but organisations like Aware are breaking the stigma, encouraging open conversations, and providing support. As part of our Living Proof sustainability strategy, we pledged to give back to our communities. Mental health is just as important as physical health and we’re proud to support Aware’s efforts.”

Dr. Lisa (Elisabeth) Koep, Tirlán’s Chief Environmental, Social & Governance Officer, remarked, “Our partnership with Aware exemplifies Living Proof in action and the money raised through the ‘Break the Cycle’ campaign will directly help our farm families who may need Aware’s support and education services. Our employees and farmers are always incredibly generous, and we encourage them to support this worthy cause at this year’s National Ploughing Championships.”
